"Rating anime is seriously a subjective thing. It all depends on the feelings and experiences u had during watching that particular anime. Even a bare minimum unpleasant experience while watching an anime could really affect your whole thought about the anime. It's all back to your enjoyment. If people don't enjoy your favorite anime, doesn't necessarily mean it's not good. It's just they had a different experience." -someone from Youtube

wht are you guys opinion on this?

My ratings are the result of both subjective and objective viewpoints, I do get where they're coming from tho

Is there such thing as an objective rating?

The closest thing is when an English professor grades an essay.
I like dub more than sub because I am not a weeb.

Is it not? It's far better than being "objective".

I agree with the general sentiment. There is a popular saying of "Timing is everything." There are optimal and suboptimal conditions when to watch certain shows. Determining optimal conditions are a bit tricky, but suboptimal conditions are easier. For example, I tend to enjoy less when I watch shows when I'm starving (some of my attention is diverted to my hunger and being hungry also makes me grouchy; which could lead me to take my displeasure on the show) or really sleepy (the details of the show are blurred).

Even if you rate something objectively, it doesn't mean that other people are going to agree with the score you give. To me, rating objectively is just appealing to a supposed consensus of what other people may think of the quality of an anime. You can't really determine the factors that are going to affect someone's enjoyment of it since it's based on your own personal analysis of what others may like.

Yes, rating is a very subjective thing that solely depends on each person. When it comes to watch an anime, it's always the enjoyment that matters the most. There will be always anime for everyone to like or enjoy. Personal experiences, preferences and feelings are quite prominent on how I rate shows too. Sometimes even if a show people considerd to be good, it could be opposite for me. So yeah I agree with your statement.

True, that's why never hype them up while recommending an anime. Just say lilke "it's good if you want to watch it maybe you won't like it....i don't know" or something lilke that.

This is objectively the truth. (pun intended)
Why does this even need to be discussed...

As usual, it depends from what we're talking about. The quality of animation doesn't depend on my mood. Redline isn't ugly when I'm not in the mood to watch it, and that horse scene from Spice and Wolf isn't good even when I'm feeling particularly lenient.
Yes, your enjoyment of the final product is subjective. I enjoy titties. Does a show suddenly gets better with titties?... wait actually that's a wrong example, a good quarter of the anime fandom thinks titties = better.

there is no objectivity in art. the primary goal of art is to elicit an emotional reaction from a viewer, whether that be joy, sadness, excitement, or anything else. sure, there are more technical facets of anime, such as direction, animation quality, voice acting, or writing. however, there is no definitive criteria as to what constitutes objective advantages in those categories. even opinions on those facets are just that: subjective opinions. at the end of the day, it is still our emotions and inherent biases that govern our opinions on art.

It's odd.

Some in the anime community swear that it only matters how you feel about an anime but as soon as you say you don't like an anime they like then it becomes about how objectively good an anime is. This is kind of a trademark of toxic fandoms though.

I personally think it's best to look at all media subjectively and objectively. Anime isn't some special case that can't be criticize objectively. Movies and art are looked at through critical lens using objective factors all the time, why should anime be any different?

Though I will always say subjectivity > objectivity

I'm no critic, I'm not examining every little facet and detail of the structure of an anime. I'm just watching anime to have some form of escapism to look forward to at the end of the day after a long and tiring shift! I rate an anime ENTIRELY based on how much positive impact it had on me personally. I don't want to feel like I'm grading a student's essay, I want to, have a good time.

Now if you want to be the critic, go ahead, it's free real estate, and no one can stop you on how you rate your stuff. But take into account rotten tomatoes, the CRITIC score is the face of the film, what you see first, and how you judge it. But after watching a movie, which rating do you tend to lean more towards? The critic or the audience? Don't know about you, but just about every time I agree with the audience score almost whole heartedly while thinking the critic score is bunch of bs

At the end of the day it's up to you to decide how you judge your anime. As for me, I'm going to continue being a casual and just rating on how much I personally enjoyed what I watched
